I’m a nonentity, get me out of here

I’m a nonentity, get me out of here

Recently it’s become clear to me
that I need to be famous before my poems can be.
Would dear old Spike’s talent have been spotted so soon
if he hadn’t at first found fame as a Goon?
Would Roger McGough’s poems have reached lofty parts
if he hadn’t found fame with his mates in the charts?

My poems aren’t worthy, aren’t arty or farty,
I’d go nude on Big Brother but I don’t do tarty,
I could streak through The Lords just for fames sake
but they wouldn’t notice, they’re hardly awake!
I think I’ll settle for obscurity instead,
content in the knowledge…..I’ll be read…..when I’m dead.
