At the top of the stairs stands Elvis
saying, “Thank you very much..
You all deserve your place up here
for the lives that you did touch.”

Jim and Jimi open the gates
as Bowie floats on through
“Get out of that tin can,” Lynott says
“Marc and Freddie are waiting for you.”

A bit of reggae to set the tone
Bob sings, “No woman, No cry.”
“Let’s Dance” says David so John says
“Yeah! It’s easy if you try.”

Buddy nudges up his glasses
while Otis Redding sits
watching Michael do the moonwalk
and Moony twirling his drumsticks.

Janis and Mama are having a ball
the Lynrd lads all free as birds
Ian Curtis sends a transmission
Robin and Maurice decipher the words.

Karen calls all the occupants
Gary Moore comes over the hill
Big O drove all night to get here
Eddie’s rocked around the clock with Bill.

Stuart Adamson carries his E-Bow
while somebody dances with Whitney
It looks like Nat and Natalie
are 24 hours from Gene Pitney

A ring of fire burns forThe Man in Black
Colin has a wonderful life to find
Sam Cooke doesn’t know much about it
Kurt says “Oh well, well never mind.”

Steve Strange has faded to grey
while Amy’s just gone back to black
Eva walks through her fields of gold
Ian’s got his rythm stick back.

But wait, Marvin’s heard through the grapevine
Sid too, he holds up his guitar
but George’s, well, his gently weeps
as they make room for just one more star

the sky it begins to turn purple
“Come up and join us.” They all say
as Prince climbs the stairs to be with them
wearing a raspberry beret.

I'm a mother of four fantastic children (three grown up now) I took up writing again as I became disabled after a paralysing illness and needed a focus. I like to draw and paint to keep my hands busy and moving, and writing keeps my brain cells stretched, keeping the old cogs working. Of course it also keeps me out of mischief. Much love Cate
