Cheap and easy to make.

Ingredients:

200 / grams ( approx 1½ cups) -Red lentils ( soaked in water)

1 chopped onion ( preferably red onion.)

1½ inch piece of ginger grated

Grated garlic if you wish –  to taste.

½ a cup of coriander leaves chopped fine

4 Green chillies finely sliced ( more or less to taste)

½ teaspoon Ground cumin

(You can add potato if you wish.)

Salt

Oil for frying.

Method:

Drain lentils and place in a blitzer / blender along with the other ingredients except oil.

Blitz/ blend until smooth.

Make into small balls and flatten to make patties.

Fry on medium heat in oil until browned and cooked through. (about ten minutes)

Delicious with salad, and chutney.

I like them with a nice spicy Indian rice dish.

Love the poem
Oooh. Recipes as well. . I adore lentils and pulses. I will try these cutlets.
I am constantly looking for a good easy Dahl recipe. Nothing I’ve found so far cuts it. ( been looking for over twenty years)
I only like the red lentil and/or yellow split pea Dahl.
I shall keep fingers crossed you might consider obliging.

Thank you for the link Sally, they sound nice too.
I think cumin is a really wonderful spice, gives ordinary food the Wow, factor.
I will give them a try.

These sound very tasty! Ocado substituted my red lentils with green ones today - I wonder if this will taste ok with the green ones? Will let you know 🙂

You can use the green lentils Sally, they just take a little longer to cook and are a bit more robust in flavour, a bit hotter and peppery. Since the red lentils are slightly nuttier, maybe you could add a few nuts.
Good luck and looking forward to the results of your experiment. 🙂
