Memories of the seasons

SEASONS

Frost ferns on the windows,
Clouds of early morning breath,
‘Bread and Cheese’ trees tinged with green,
Lambs all new and wet and fresh.

Summertime was wearing shorts,
Sandals with the toes cut out,
Lying on the river bank
Learning how to tickle trout.

Leaves piled high for feet to churn through
Smelled of toast and used up sun,
Then in deep and midnight blackness
Wait for shooting stars to run.

Home from school as darkness falls,
Welcome kitchen, food all ready,
Washing on the airer hanging,
Warm and clean and fresh and caring.

Every day throughout the seasons
Whether after sun or snow,
Little bed in little bedroom,
Loving parents down below.

Thank you.
