Mother Nature’s Plan

Mother Nature’s Plan

Slipping quietly behind a cloud. Like any mother, protects her child
She began in ways, that first seemed mild
Some extra rain here, a strong breeze there
But still no-one really seemed to care

She stirred the embers created fire
At first just one, it wasn’t dire
No-one took notice, just put it out
So Mother knew t’was time to shout

The fires were spread across a land
The winds grew stronger, out of hand
The rain came down, in torrents strong
And still nobody saw the wrong

The human race helped each other
Mother, father, sister, brother
They built defences, doused the flame
But still were blind ‘bout who’s to blame

Youngsters saw the reason clear
The world they loved, would disappear
Unless the leaders took action now
There’d be no fields, left to plow

Sealife would dwindle to a few
The atmosphere would suffer too
From stuff we put into our air
Polluting it, without a care

The plastic we all have in use
Is nothing short of being obtuse
Our life is fast, needs slowing down
In country, city, village, town

‘Enough’ said Mother, ‘time to stop’
Your plastic bubble, I will pop
My child the earth is hurt enough
And now my plans are really tough

Your greed has brought you to this place
Shame on you, you human race
What God created, you’ve defiled
How dare you hurt my special child

It’s time to give the earth a rest
I’ve really done my very best
I’ll halt you all and keep you in
While nature nurtures its own kin

Watch from your windows, stay inside
See earth recover, as I guide
Some day, you’ll all get out again
I’ll release you from your pen’

With that, Mother Nature smiled
Looked at the long list she’d compiled
‘Time to start’, she said out loud
Slipping quietly behind a cloud.

I'm an Irish Nana, loving the UK after living in Spain for 14 years. 'Why on earth did you leave there', I hear you ask. The sunshine my two grandchildren bring to my life, far surpasses the rays from the sky. Wherever they are, their Nana will be too!
