My Autobiography

Twenty-year-olds are writing their life stories so…………

My Autobiography

I thought I’d write a book, all about my life
Entertain the folk, with tales of happiness and strife
I spent ages doing research, drank  barrels of cheap wine
Scribbled many notebooks, thought I was doing fine

But then upon the editing, it caused an unplanned nap
Forcing me to realise it was full of boring crap
Using a red crayon, I scrubbed out all the dross
Result was, many chapters in the bin I had to toss

When checking what was relevant, I really could have cried
The only words that I had left,… I was born,… I lived…… I died.

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..

Pity you got rid of the dross Glenys, sometimes a lot of dross is what life is all about.
Loved your poem, you should never have had that nap.;-)

Another excellently funny poem Glenys. However you did leave something out between the I lived and I died bit. Namely, I wrote some terrific poetry.

Thank you for your kind words I honestly think they are just about adequate but I do make myself laugh and it helps fill in the day.
