My Fridge

My Fridge

My fridge is a hazard to health
Rubber gloved I approach it with stealth
Respect it is in a bad state
But going out so don’t wish to be late

Whilst keeping one eye on the clock
Was not quite prepared for a shock
There are eggs and there’s milk also cheese
Dried up bacon, a half tin of peas

What is that green stuff … can’t  guess
It may be just putrefied cress
This puts a black mark on my pride
As fronds have grown up inside

The grapes with mildew are sprinkled
The apples and peaches are wrinkled
And there at the back, I remember
Is a mince pie I hid last December

I nibble at cakes on the quiet
As in public I stay on my diet
So I will be ever so bold
I’ll eat it….scraped free of mold

Flick a cloth round to take off what’s sticky
This cleaning is fast, just a quickie
But never you fear
I’ll do it better next year
I’m fastidious and can be quite picky

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world..

Great poem Glenys. Cleaning the fridge is one of the cleaning jobs I actually like doing. Did I actually write the words like and cleaning in one sentence. Weird.

I use gin for cleaning....if one doesn’t make it look clean enough I have another and then I don’t care if it’s sparkling or not

With ice and a slice I hope. Gin cleaning is the new spring cleaning.
