My Fridge

My Fridge

My fridge is a hazard to health
Rubber gloved I approach it with stealth
Respect it is in a bad state
But going out so don’t wish to be late

Whilst keeping one eye on the clock
Was not quite prepared for a shock
There are eggs and there’s milk also cheese
Dried up bacon, a half tin of peas

What is that green stuff … can’t  guess
It may be just putrefied cress
This puts a black mark on my pride
As fronds have grown up inside

The grapes with mildew are sprinkled
The apples and peaches are wrinkled
And there at the back, I remember
Is a mince pie I hid last December

I nibble at cakes on the quiet
As in public I stay on my diet
So I will be ever so bold
I’ll eat it….scraped free of mold

Flick a cloth round to take off what’s sticky
This cleaning is fast, just a quickie
But never you fear
I’ll do it better next year
I’m fastidious and can be quite picky

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
