My Mother

My Mother

Today is our Mum’s birthday
I miss her very much
Her gently spoken voice
And her soft and loving touch

She would have been 97 today (and Dad was one year more)
But in my mind’s eye she remains a youthful 44

We’d play cards – canasta (or scrabble)
She and Dad and Mike and me
When we went round on Sunday, for dinner or for tea

So enjoying happy memories that never go away
But come to mind from time to time, especially on this day
