New Years Eve

New Years Eve

On my own on New Year’s Eve, now let me make it plain
I am not feeling lonely, I’m queen of my domain
Many years I’ve danced to other people’s bidding
Now if I don’t choose to do it, I state you must be kidding

Coming near my sell-by date, I have champagne that’s pink
Don’t want to pop my clogs, before I open it to drink
So it sits there in my fridge, to await my call
And if I’m feeling frisky, I may just drink it all.

I’ll eat what I want and when I want, not just out of habit
If salad is what I require ….there’s none to call me rabbit
I’ll retire past midnight, stay abed till streets are aired
No one has to shield their eyes, if my birthday suit is bared.

I can sing in the bath, or dance in my front room
No one laughing at my steps, or know I can’t hold a tune
So here’s a toast to next year, may you be happy with your lot
Instead of wishing for anything, enjoy what you have got

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
