Night Before Christmas

A little light humour just before Christmas, I perform this item when working Silver Surfer homes.

Night Before Christmas – A poem for Christmas.

It’s Christmas again, and goodwill to all men.
Please try to be friends one and all.
If you’re going out singing your carols tonight.
Stay away from the house with the wall.

Twas the night before Christmas, and bitterly cold.
And the snow was just starting to fall.
Two orphans were kicking a football they’d found.
Up against this old ladies brick wall.

When a big car pulled up, and a fellow got out.
From a window upstairs a girl cried.
How much have you got, just a fiver he said.
So she came down and let him inside.

Half an hour goes quick when you’re having some fun.
And so it did for them all.
The man came out with a smile on his face.
While the boys still played with their ball.

Young man said this voice, from a man on a bike.
How would you like fifty P?
If I leave my bike here while I go in there.
Perhaps you could watch it for me.

Half an hour went by and the man came back out.
The boys still played with their ball.
With a wink and a nod, he gave them the cash.
Took his bike but said nothing at all.

Well the boy knocked the door, and the woman looked out.
It’s just fifty P I’ve got here.
She opened the door, and dragged him inside.
And she didn’t half box his ear.

That was quick, said his mate, as he bounced off the step.
And brushed off the snow from his hat.
I’m glad I never had a fiver he said.
I couldn’t have stood half hour of that.

At this time I am retired, having been a musician and comedian for 51 years I now still work occasionally with a fellow musician entertaining old folks homes BUPA and age concern, our entertainment being country music with a touch of comedy. Until the demise of the paper Reading Post I was a columnist under the name of the Silver surfer champion of the over 60s for 6 1/2 years and enjoyed it immensely. Also with my friend we have the enjoyable task of being Father Christmas for the last five years at a garden centre in Arborfield. We both have CDs concerning country music, and I myself when I have time enjoy wood turning, candlemaking, and an item called space art. I have found it quite amazing that as one gets older there are not enough hours in the day to do everything one could wish to do.
