Pandemic

Pandemic

2020 was welcomed in with joy and great expectation
It would bring good health and wealth to every nation
Except one who harboured a deadly virus within a major Asian city
Which would become a pandemic affecting humanity

Originating in Wuhan China it spread through direct flights west to Italy
Devouring the country with its rapid contagion and high mortality
Continuing along the One Belt One Road trade route with Iran
The virus rapidly infected the unsuspecting country as it can

Through international travel it spread all around the globe
Necessitating extreme measures to lock down countries and keep their borders closed
Imposing quarantines and self distancing procedures to protect
Emphasizing the importance of hand hygiene and how to disinfect

To relieve frontline workers of more cases entering the health care system
Giving everyone the same chance to be a survivor not a victim
Compliance in curtailing this worldwide pandemic must be adhered to
Allowing scientists to work expediently towards an antiviral clue

Sequestered in our homes we wait for any good news to arrive
In the hope we will get past this carry on and thrive
