So Young, So Brave

So Young, So Brave

So many poppies all around.
Each one a cross on hallowed ground.
So many lost, some never found.
A young life in a grave.

So many sent to do their best.
Determined to fulfil their quest.
So many sadly laid to rest.
So young to be so brave.

He sees his comrade falling near.
How does he quell that gnawing fear?
When sounds of hell are all he’ll hear.
But that man’s life he’ll save.

Why do we need a dreadful war?
Do we know what the fighting’s for?
How many killed? How many more?
Is peace just a flag to wave?

So many poppies all around.
Each one a cross on hallowed ground.
So many lost, some never found.
A young life in a grave.

I'm a retired cartographer. I have written poetry since the age of about 10yrs old. I started to write more prolifically when I started my divorce some years ago. Writing got me through. I have also written a couple of children's books with illustrations as I also paint in watercolours, I paint pets and birds/animals portraits in hot melted wax. I am very excited to hear that I have a book of my poems being published by i2i publishing which I am told, should be ready in January on line from all book shops. It is called On Top Of The Wardrobe.
