Somebody to Love

Somebody to Love

Where for art thou Valentine
I dread this time of year
As once again through my letterbox
A card does not appear

I pass the stalls selling roses
Their petals of deepest red
I grab a bunch of tulips
To cheer myself up instead

I look and search for you everywhere
But never do I find
Someone to love me for who I am,
Caring, thoughtful and kind.

I scroll the pages on Tinder
As I can’t travel far and wide
Oh where for art though Romeo
The one I’ll stand beside

My Mum, she says I’m far too young,
I shouldn’t dig and delve
She says I’ve got years ahead
As I am only twelve

But all my friends have boyfriends
I’m the only one without
Juliet, well she met Romeo
And at my age or thereabout

Once again on Valentine’s Day
For me, there’s little joy
But wait who’s throwing stones at my window,
It’s him, that gorgeous boy!

I’ve seen him at the bus stop
I saw him get off the train
And there he is on our front path,
Holding roses in the pouring rain…

And now the heavens open
Lightning strikes from the clouds above
And as I look down from my window,
I know that I’ve found love
