The Bells are Ringing

This is for all key holders who look after premises over the festive season who get called out because someone has put up dodgy decorations.

The Bells are Ringing

T’was the night before Christmas
And all through the house,
Nothing was stirring,
Not even a mouse.

Then the phone rang
And it shattered the peace,
T’was the call I’d been dreading,
It was the police.

” Merry Christmas! The voice said,
It’s bad news I’m bringing,
I’m sorry to say
Your alarm bells are ringing”.

So out of my bed
I jump with a thump,
Slip on a mat
And land on my rump.

In my cold car
I speed through the night,
Is it burglars I wonder
Am I in for a fight!

I arrive at the school
And unlock the main gate,
All alone in the world,
Not even a mate.

The bells are all ringing,
The corridors dark,
I pretend I’m a guard dog
And give a loud bark.

“HEEL SATAN” I shout
As I walk through the gloom,
The log on the key pad
Say’s this is the room.

So I take a deep breath
And I open the door
Shouting ” ARMED POLICE..
LAY ON THE FLOOR”.

I flick on the light switch,
My adrenalin high
And what do you think
Meets my glowering eye?

A spiral of tinsel
Had been taped to the ceiling,
It had come adrift
And had set the bells pealing.

Grrr..I’ll find out who did this,
And when I detect’em,
I’ll be shoving that tinsel,
*********

In the spirit of Christmas I have omitted the last line of my poem..

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
