The Change

To celebrate Menopause week here is my little contribution ……..

The Change

The women liked to gossip, at the shop or on the street,
At weddings and at funerals when family could meet.
They used to have to whisper, in voices that were strange
“Have you heard that poor old Auntie Betty’s going through the change?”

A knowing look, a mournful sigh, the passing of the years,
A taboo subject, strictly secret not for their men’s ears.
They used to keep it under wraps until they saw a mate
“Have you heard that poor old Auntie Betty’s past her sell-by date? “

Why was it such a big secret?
Why couldn’t they shout it out loud ?
It’s a bugger I know, but we handle it well
We’re strong, spirited, sassy and proud!

So ladies, you go gossip now and spread the word to all
It’s ok that things are changing, embrace it, stand up tall.
We’re looking good and feeling young and so, to much applause
“Have you heard that good old Auntie Betty’s smashed the MENOPAUSE?“
