The Present

The Present

As another birthday approaches number sixty five
I realise how fortunate it is to be alive
So many friends and family have passed beyond the veil
in spirit they accompany me as I walk along life’s trail

Evidence of their existence is in a picture on a wall
prompting cherished memories a pleasure to recall
Also in photo albums displayed chronologically
of precious moments we spent together joyfully

It’s time to celebrate all that life can bring
cast off winters cloak and embrace all signs of spring
Walk out in the sunshine and even in the rain
admire natures bounty that has bloomed again

Be grateful for the ‘now’ tomorrow’s yesterday
a very welcome gift and whatever comes your way
Age is just a number health is wealth they say
appreciate what’s denied to many – the present of today
