The Squirreling Squirrels

The Squirreling Squirrels

The squirrels are busy stocking their winter pantry scampering amongst the trees
As the falling leaves whirl and twirl on the October breeze
Watching them scurry about is such a delight
Hiding their caches of berries nuts and seeds out of sight

Artfully concealed to avoid future marauders
Memorizing cues to retrieve food from their larders
Usually they nest in a comfy drey made of twigs and leaves
Hidden in the branches up high in the trees

Until Mother Nature signals winters on its way
When they will find a warm cosy den to stay
Their tails signal to each other while they run around
Climbing up the trees and foraging on the ground

Darting to and fro preparing their new den
Where they will nestle until spring returns again
