With Christmas fast approaching, this very topical and amusing poem about turkey, is written by Claire Baldry:

The Turkey’s Lament

On this day in mid November,

I’m not feeling very perky,

For my face is on a poster,

Which says ‘Fresh and Free Range Turkey’

You can order me for Christmas,

To feed up your son and daughter,

No-one cares how I will feel,

As they drive me to the slaughter

So, my dears, I want to tell you

How much better it would be,

If you ordered a large chicken

For your celebration tea

Or a guinea fowl or pheasant,

For the dinner at your house,

I am sure the kids would love a meal

Of gravy served with grouse

But as turkey is tradition,

And that’s what you have chosen,

I thought I would just mention

That we are much cheaper frozen
