The visits

The visits

I felt you sitting by me, to soothe and calm my fear,
And though you were unseen to me, I knew that you were here,
I felt the warmth you gave me, just like you did before,
Long before you went awhile, to walk through heaven’s door.

I always know you’re here with me,  you visit every day,
I speak to you, with silent words, but you hear what I say,
I do recall our best days, when you were in my sky,
And yes, sometimes a ‘silver tear’, will trickle from my eye.

And always there’s a whisper or a sigh of soft content,
Or a telepathic message from you, to ease my own lament,
My life is filled with memories, of what you were before,
But always made the sweeter, when you come back through my door.

You filled my life in ‘Earthland’,  with bounteous love each day,
A link of life companions,  a bond in every way,
Not broken when you left me, for though seemingly apart,
You have mine, I have yours, we hold each other’s heart.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
