To My Dad

I lost my Dad to Covid six weeks ago. I wasn’t able to be with him in his last two weeks. This I what I wrote and read at his cremation:

To My Dad

We are brokenhearted because our Dad is no longer here
Yet we smile at those happy memories we hold so dear

Our hearts may be hollow because we can no longer embrace
But we’re content because you and Mum are in the same place

We may close our eyes and fill our hearts with sorrow
Then we remember your determination, it carries us through tomorrow

We are touched by sadness, feel empty that you are gone
Yet we cherish every memory, as we continue to live on

You gave us life, now we’re connected for eternity
You’ve earned your rest Dad, it’s time for you to leave

Dad, we choose to embrace your spirit in our minds and hearts
You and Mum live within us, now you’ll never be apart
