Truly Scrumptious!

My dear mother passed away last week at the grand age of 87 and I have been inspired by all our talented poets in the Silversurfers community to write a poetic tribute myself.

Up until the weekend, I had never written a poem and I found it a cathartic experience.

My mum lived in a care home for many years sadly as she had dementia, and the poem helped me to remember a time before when she was my mum and I was her daughter, a role that sadly reversed these last few years.

My mum was one of life’s great feeders … a skill which I have also inherited and am now passing on to my three wonderful daughters.

Truly Scrumptious!

Coffee cake baked and iced with a swirl
Sunday roast ready with teatime sandwiches as well
Sweet draw filled up with goodies and chocs
Always made to feel welcome, when the door knocks

Spaghetti Bolognese, your signature dish
Always catering for everyone’s wish
Chicken ‘Carasole’, another delight
One of life’s great feeders, a welcome sight

Iced gem biscuits and roast chicken crisps
Ketchup from a plastic tomato, not to be missed!
Sausage rolls and mince pies made with passion
Crème Caramel, Melting Moments whatever was in fashion

Your culinary skills will stay in our minds
Your kind-hearted nature, hard elsewhere to find
No need for a recipe, or weighing things out
You instinctively knew without a doubt.

You filled us with food, you filled us with love,
Always there to care for us, nothing too much
A smile on your face, a warm happy glow
Grandchildren your passion, watching them grow

We have inherited your passion for caring for others
You have inspired a generation of loving fathers and mothers
We will cherish the recipe of love that you shared
And the special way that you showed us you cared.

RIP Grandma Mollie x
