Until

Until

Fingers slipping from my grasp, slowly walk away,
Never daring to look back, try to look away,
Teardrops rain down on my cheek and stain around my eye,
Standing, staring, weeping, sighing, – saying goodbye.

“Goodbye my darling”. – this from me.
A broken love was not to be,
No more to sit on ‘Heathered hill’,
Again we face the Winter’s chill.

I watch her go, I stand and stare,
And just a wisp of blonded hair,
Reminds me now of who she used to be,
And all of what we hoped for, is a broken memory.

But still I have my own thoughts here,
To lighten up my twilight year,
And holding these will greatly ease the heavy pain,
Until, – by resurrection, – these two hearts meet again.
( Goodbye my love ) xx

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
