Waiting To Exhale

Waiting To Exhale

After lockdown lifting restrictions gradually is next and all that it will entail
We shall collectively hold our breath waiting to exhale
Fearful of any resurgence of the virus in society
Mindful of our desire to return to normal and its necessity

We’ve stayed at home or practised safe distancing otherwise
Watched as this contaminant has devastated our world right before our eyes
Via global and local news bulletins live coverage with videos
Ever thankful for the selfless work of all the frontline heroes

Mourning the thousands of lives lost worldwide to this pandemic
Aware of its potential to incite widespread panic
As food processing plants are closed due to employee contamination
Causing product hoarding chaos and frustration

The fallout due to the economic recession will have many casualties
As businesses close or impose staff lay offs with forced redundancies
Retirees anxious as their portfolios diminish
Encouraging the workforce to resume before lockdown guidelines finish

Somethings got to give while we wait to exhale
While a twenty four hour vigilance continues to prevail
To expediently find a viable antiviral medicine and vaccine
To successfully annihilate this deadly Covid-19
