What did you learn during Lockdown?

What did you learn during Lockdown

Stuck in the house at lockdown,
you need not waste the days
People were inventive,
used time in different ways

Results could be fantastic,
which made me rather jealous
At seeking out new pastimes,
some folk were extra zealous.

Learn to play an instrument,
or train your voice in song
Some of the more brainy ones,
now speak  a foreign tongue

Others chose to garden,
make banana bread or jam
Knit jumpers for grandchildren,
crochet blankets for their pram.

Decorating lounge,
plastering the walls
Swivel hips for hula hoops,
or juggling eight small balls

Did you research your family,
catch up with friends on zoom?
Or get injured moving furniture,
to dance around the room.

Some have walked for many miles,
over hill and dales
But don’t dare visit Scotland,
stay far away from Wales

Myself I have  been lazy,
just exercised my pen
I will learn to improve my brain……
but I’m not saying when.

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..

Great poem Glenys. I did some of those things. I gardened, I baked bread, I decorated, I zoomed, I walked, but for some reason I didn't exercise my pen. Must have worn myself out.

. Thank you and thanks to my daughter in law who suggested I got some cheap reading glasses for when I’d had my second eye op, it’s all I’ve been able to do as I had to take things very easy. Luckily it seems to have paid off and ops have been successful baring a few complications

Glad the ops went well and I hope the complications have been minor and time will have you right as rain, without the rain.

Hi silversurfer9
I have enjoyed your poems ...amusing reading... You clearly enjoy writing. Have you tried writing lyrics for songs?

I have written several poems over the past few years, but have problems down loading on to this site

Sorry to hear your problems uploading poems, I do understand as my expertise centres on the tease.. it took me three days to upload a voice recording to Radio Manchester, it was worth it though as I had a playback and interview which wS interesting....well for me anyway, can speak for the listeners.
I have writ a couple of songs but only me has sung them. Someone did ask could he set one of my poems to music but I haven’t heard from him since. Take care , don’t give up

Makes me feel quite inadequate Glenys - so many intentions that haven't come into fruition! (yet!) 😉
