Wild West Weather

Wild West Weather

Wild winds howling, gusting, blowing in wet from the west
Cold pierces your clothing, right through to your vest

The rains have been heavy, bursting battened down hatches
Sunny intervals are few, here and there, just short snatches

Roads turned into rivers, raging, roaring, fast flowing
Gardens and fields turned to swamps, no sign of crops growing

So much has been lost, homes and livelihoods destroyed
Rescue services so stretched, and the army deployed

Sandbags piled up high to cope with flood troughs and peaks
Storms Ciara and Dennis, remembered for the havoc they’ve wreaked

We’ve had our fill of warnings, coloured yellow, amber and red
It’s time we had long spells of dry sunny weather instead

The weather forecasters wish they could give us good news
So we can cast off our wellies and get back in our shoes

Golden daffodils, pure white snowdrops, and red robins that sing
Let our hearts now be gladdened by these beautiful harbingers of spring

I love to write the odd poem when inspired by some event or happening in my own life or that of my family and friends. I usually just write poems for my own pleasure, but I have enjoyed sharing a few of my efforts on Silversurfers and have received some wonderful comments from the community. I enjoy watching Rugby Union. I call myself a 'Hobby Colourist' and enjoy the work of the inky black and white artist Johanna Basford, and I also dabble in photography, in a very amature pastime kind of way.
