For World Sleep Day

Insomnia

On rare occasions when I cannot sleep
I count line dance steps instead of sheep
Practice those, who’s steps I’m sure
Omit any ones a tad obscure

And tho’ there’s no one else to blame
They never turn out quite the same
Please explain to me I beg
How I seem to grow an extra leg

As I try to sort out left from right
Resulting in a duvet fight
Grapevine, sailor, cha cha char
I really do not  get that far

As all the dance steps seem to blend
Which isn’t what I did intend
To get myself in such a fix
When all the dances start to mix

No music to tell me what to do
Although I must confess to you
If it ever spoke used foreign tongue
‘Cos tags…..I always get them wrong

Annoyance and frustration make
It easier to stay awake
Alas when it is time to rise
That’s just when I have shut my eyes!

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
