2018 my year to start living again

Hello everone I'm mea and have just joined this group today. I was 64 on the 1st Jan which is a great date as I am always able to say I am not, in this case, 65 til next year, and it always seems ages away.

Anyway, I was widowed last year, after 41 years of marriage, and found it extremely difficult, but I'm coming out the other end and would like to make new friends and discuss lots of new subjects and use my brain again. I love reading, craft, nature, dancing and walking (when my body will allow me, which isn't often) Jazz, the theatre, listening to music, I've just got rid of my drum kit which I bought myself for my 50th birthday, due to lack of space, but if I say so myself became a pretty cool rock chick. I enjoy my garden, the coast, and adore my dog who is rather old now.

I used to go out a lot but during my husband's long illness most friends faded away and I had to stay home. Since being on my own I have continued to stay home and become a recluse.

I am hoping this forum will be the first step to my regaining the old vivacious me who would go anywhere to sing, dance and be happy. Hoping to speak in writing with someone soon.

Have a very Happy New Year to everyone Mea.

Hello mea, this is wampus , happy new yer and new start. I am in a similar situation myself I lost my husband a year ago and as we travelled a lot and did thing together I felt very isolated. I have like you decided positive action was needed and I needed to put my brain in gear. I am a retired writer and an avid reader, I also love animals and like visiting nature reserves etc.LWHEREABOUTS in the country are you if you want to chat I'd love some conversation and to get to know new people. This is a new start, being positive. Hope you are well, be great to hear from you if you want to chat about anything and everything. All the best, wampus

Hello mea,
I've just joined here too.
Not sure what I'm doing. Lost my husband too a year ago, a great relief after years of stressful caring. In some ways I've had a great year keeping busy, folk music, textile crafts, visiting family. But it's all a bit feast and famine. The quiet life is good isn't it, until you need a bit of human chat and nobody's there.
Like you, I want to make the effort to have a social life. Good luck to us both!
