60's music...there's been nothing to beat it since, saturday night dancing, I still have all my old 45 vinyl records,....
ELVIS
CRAIG DOUGLAS
BILLY FURY
EMILE FORD....there were so many brilliant songs, and the singers dressed nicely, not like now where the come out onto the stage in their underwear that must be their way of getting noticed

I am certainly a 60`s lad, born in the 50`s first bit of music i remember was 16 Tons by Tennessee Ford Williams, but it was the Beatles that started my love affair with music.

What a great time to live with the explosion of bands in the UK superb but it was Pink Floyd and See Emily Play that led me down many diverse musical roads and many beautiful experiences over the years.

Dare I also admit to having seen, and had my hand kissed by, David Whitfield who was the first British artist to top the UK and USA singles charts at the same time with "Cara Mia" in 1954. I hasten to add that it was quite a few years after this that I saw him at the Floral Hall in Scarborough. Those were the days! 🙂

Ohh, a kiss on the hand, how romantic! I listen to a lot of jazz from those days as well. An old friend from Army days was an exec with Fantasy records and sent me boxes of new releases. I had over 300 LP albums at one time, down to maybe a hundred now.

😉 Yes I can see that you would have a problem with your hand being kissed, Lionel, but as you so rightly say David Whitfield's voice was wonderful.

............ and Jim Reeves! As for Lionel's horse - I hope you are organising search parties, Little Minx!

I'm not sure that Lionel's horse deserves to be rescued if Lionel thinks that the bagpipes sound like ewes giving birth!!! There again, that is Lionel's opinion - not the horse's so Lightening may be forgiven. Not sure about Mexico - I'm a bit of a wuss where travelling is concerned. Had two weeks on the Andaman Islands - think we got there before National Geographic - and I think that "holiday" just about finished me off so now prefer the UK in all its glory.

Roberta Flack was wonderful. I was born in Texas as was Buddy Holly, then lived in southern California as a teenager.

60s music has just got to be the best - perhaps straying into the 70s a bit with Abba! But the 60s records only lasted for about 3 minutes so even if you hated them, they were soon finished unlike some of the awful renditions of today which go on and on forever. Quite a few years ago I took my younger daughter to a show called "The Big O" - she hadn't a clue who Roy Orbison was but after a while watching and listening to the tribute band she was absolutely hooked and said that if the show ever came back to Leeds Grand Theatre then we were having front row seats - and we did! We both love Neil Diamond as well. I remember going to see the Beatles, Lulu, the Beach Boys, Dave Clark 5, Millie (she sang "My Boy, Lollipop") Stevie Wonder, Martha and the Vandellas, the Dubliners and a lot more of the popular groups at Leeds Odeon - now a Primark store. Nowadays, I'm more of a Classic FM fan but still listen to (and am probably word perfect when singing) my CDs with the 60s music!

That is wonderful that that you saw so many of the great ones back then!

Yes, it truly is a great thing.

Regarding 1960s music, I went to high school in Santa Calif., graduated in the same class as Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers. We took our draft physicals the same day. He failed, I passed and spent two years in the army while they made hit records.

Bobby Hatfield sang that one and it was great. Bill sang on their first hit, "Lilttle Latin Lupe lou" and sang the theme in Dirty Dancing. "I had the time of my life. "
