Alcohol consumption concern

My partner and I are in our 60's; I am tea-total and he drinks a bottle of wine every night without exception. I fear for his health, and he knows it bothers me, but he says he doesn't care. Am I being unreasonable?

Why should you care if he wants to drink, He does not care about how you feel. if he wants to view life through the bottom of a glass let him get on with it, just ignore it and get on enjoying your life. He only has himself to blame if drinking damages his health.

In our sixties we have lived through good times and hard times, probably raised children and have certainly seen life so if his drinking does not lead to anti social behavior enjoy the now.

Having worked as a doctor and having seen what alcohol can do to health, I find that comment extremely unhelpful. However thank you for voicing it, you have a right to your opinion.

I sympathise with your concern for your partner's health but speaking personally, I would not consider a tea-totaller to be boyfriend/ why material simply because I too enjoy wine and alcohol. I can say that I have made a conscious effort to reduce my imbibing because if you have a taste for the stuff (probably genetic) it can get a hold on some of us (and I'm not casting aspersions on your partner here).
I am twice widowed and live alone and wine can certainly become something to look forward to when you're in front of the tv and feel like treating yourself.....The other issue is weight gain of course and this may be more of a health problem than the actual alcohol because the fatter you are, the less affected you are by the intoxicants. I belong to a monthly Wine appreciation group-informal not Jancis Robinson types-and perhaps you could find something similar for your partner to enjoy. Many of the wineshop chains (Majestic, Tanners, etc) hold regular tasting events and you could go along and ask for a soft drink youself. They would be delighted because your partner might buy....

It would seem that my concern is unwanted, I therefore say nothing now, but have to watch him drinking every day and have the consequential behaviour
