Are you taking care of the bees?

Just been out in my garden.

The dandelions are starting to flower .

Please don't be too eager with the weed killer at this time they are the main source of food for our bees!

Stay safe

I agree with you, and I think all grass roadside verges should be left uncut, we are too tidy as a nation, bring back some wildness for all kinds of insects, not only bees.

Bees seem to love purple flowes more than anything, I have a huge bumble bee hovering around my lavender bush, even though it hasn't really started growing properly. Probably a good memory from last year.

Perfect..E7D ...dandelions, great source of protein, roots can be dried and roasted to make a kind of coffee ( yuk),. leaves used in salads and flowers dipped in batter and fried.
Your namesakes should be grown in great quantities, ultra healthy.
With so many farmers doing away with hedgerows, and more and more land being covered in tarmac and buildings, bees are migrating to gardens. It is our job to give them somewhere to collect nectar.

Years ago I went to work in France as an 'au pair' and was introduced to dandelion leaves with ham in a baguette. Most of the French children seemed to eat it and I would imagine it was very nutritious but it left such a bitter taste in the mouth!

With the current food shortages perhaps we should all be 'growing' and eating dandelions in our gardens - perhaps as I'm older now I won't find the taste quite so unpalatable!!!

This is all very reassuring. My garden is a wilderness! I potter about, digging a bit, planting a bit, no idea what I’m doing....and now it seems as if I’m creating a haven for our wonderful bees. The lawn, a mixture of dandelions and mud, suddenly looks beautiful. I will think about investing in a hive.
