Are you worried about Coronavirus?

I am quite worried about this. I think the Chinese have done an excellent job at containing it but I do worry it will spread to poorer countries which will find it difficult to control and will struggle to have lockdowns like China has done.

Are you worried?  Will you have to alter your travel plans? Has it made you nervous about travelling?

Yes I'm worried.Just had 3 weeks off work with Covid-19,and am thankful I'm still alive to tell the tale.I only said to my husband this morning,we won't be going anywhere for a holiday this year.We both work full time,so our breaks away are very important to us.Staying home is'nt the same. You still have chores to do,some cooking, tidying up,its not like a complete break to us.Wondering now when our lives will all return to some form of normality.I think its going to take months myself.I don't understand why the govt has'nt insisted on a total lockdown, because until that happens, people are still going out and about, for some their lives have really not changed, whereas other's like ourselves are virtual prisoners in our own homes.Seems so unfair to us.On the plus side,I am on AL next week, and as we can't go anywhere,I am going to decorate the house. We already had the paint brought last Autumn, just havent got around to doing it yet.So I suppose by the time Corona ends, our house will look lovely and we can then concentrate our time on better things....like actual holidays lol.

Looking back over the past few months it is incredible the situation we are now in with the pandemic and the worst economic depression for a hundred years. Who would have thought it at Christmas?

I think its getting more serious Lionel. If the Chinese have locked down cities bigger than London and most airlines have stopped flying its got to be serious. The Japanese will not let passengers off that ship and maybe Asian countries are stopping visitors into their countries. We now have it in the UK and I think the person today came in from a flight. What about all the other passengers-worrying times!

Its interesting Lionel than 6 weeks ago we were debating this but nobody knew then including HM Gov how bad it was going to be. I cannot believe that Cheltenham Racing was allowed to go ahead when the Gov could see what was happening in China. At the time our lot were talking about "Herd immunity"-Bovine stupidity if you will pardon the pun.

I wasn't but I am every time I turn on the TV. A couple of months ago a lot of politicians said it was same as flu-yeh right!. Now when you see our heroic doctors dying and their families are saying how dangerous it is I am getting increasingly worried. The most sensible thing is this self-isolation for as long as it takes

I am not worried per se. I am fortunately not high risk as am of good health but, it has surprised me how quickly it spread throughout Northern Italy and shows that we do have to be careful as although, as previously mentioned I consider myself not high risk, this does not mean that I could pass it someone who is.

What is worrying me is the panic buyers that are starting to clean the supermarket shelves of essentials, in my humble opinion, a very selfish and scare mongering process to pursue.

I agree it is a worrying time for us all and we do neeed to be careful as it sound like it affects the older generations more. However like Lance Corporal Jones in Dad's Army-DONT PANIC!

Are you panicking yet Wilf?

I notice that even some that who are said to have been in perfect health, have now lost their lives.

Let's hope the government can turn their attentions to testing more quickly. South Korea seem to have organised this with much more efficiency.

I read that scientists have been warning of something like this for quite sometime, since we had Swine Flu and Bird Flu and that we should have had testing in place for a pandemic such as Covid-19.

Stay safe!

Hi Wilf, I share your concerns too. I am thinking of changing my forthcoming travel plans as I am meant to be going to the Far East in May and feeling quite nervous about it. I am going to wait a couple of weeks as things keep changing so quickly. It seems that a vaccine is way off and it will be interesting to see how far it has spread during the next couple of weeks.

Do you have any travel plans?
Response from Wilf Original Poster made on 30th Jan 2020 19:20:44
Hello Marley. No I have no plans to go anywhere at all and I am thanksful for it! I read that it could take a year to get a vacine which is really worrying!.
Response from Wilf Original Poster made on 30th Jan 2020 19:34:04
No I dont have any money so not travel plans currently!

I am concerned about the lack of hygiene in cafes and restaurants, it’s all very well to advise people to wash their hands but not everyone does. It concerns me that cutlery is put out In containers for patrons to help themselves when just one person with the virus on their hands could infect the whole lot. Cakes and sweets are regularly left out next to the counters without being covered.
Why hasn’t the government issued any advice for eating establishments to become more aware of the dangers and adopt better practices.
I think it would be a good idea for us all to point out anything we aren’t happy about in the cafes we frequent.

I'm just glad I haven't planned any travel for now! Going to avoid crowds and take extra care of myself for the next while. While I think the media has sensationalized it a little, it still seems dangerous! Here's to hoping the vaccine is developed as soon as possible.

All very worrying Yodama. I think the Chinese are the only country who can enforce martial law. Can you imagine it here?

Hi No I would not want to travel anywhere at the moment and I read that a vaccine could be a year away!

I don't blame you Wilf ... it's quite frightening how fragile our world is!
Response from Wilf Original Poster made on 30th Jan 2020 19:30:49
Yes you are right. The electricty went off here in the storms a week ago and it was literally like being back in medieval times!

I always say to my husband we are only 48 hours away from crisis when things go wrong. There are only limited supplies of fresh foods like milk and bread and when people panic buy crisis begins so quickly!
Response from Wilf Original Poster made on 30th Jan 2020 19:41:36
Looking at the Chinese shops lots of them have run out of food!
