I am always looking for ways to encourage the birds to my garden.I have several bird baths, which I always keep topped up with fresh water.I have mixed seed feeders/fat ball and peanut feeders
I also have two nesting boxes.
We usually have a large number of sparrow, collared doves, magpie, crow and jackdaw.
My beautiful robin makes a regular appearance and SOMETIMES a tit or two will grace me with their presence.
We have recently had work done in the garden and I have been deserted by the bird population of East Kilbride...
It has been two weeks now and still waiting for the regulars to come home
Any ideas are welcome ,thanks

I am looking for people or groups in the Thurrock area in Essex that regularly go birding. I am a keen birdwatcher and love those meandering walks.

Ooooooo so excited out on the Monsal Trail today very few birds around and then I spotted a small bird about the size of a wren. It was amongst the bushes so I couldn't see it too clearly but what I could see was a bright yellow/orange strip on its head. Back home I looked on the RSPB website and yes it was a Firecrest!! I have never seen one before wonderful!!

Hi I am new to Silversurfers am so pleased to find comments from bird watchers. I walk most days on the Monsal Trail in Bakewell and have enjoyed seeing long tailed tits, blue tits and a song thrush who sang beautifully and didn't seem to mind my presence. Today a bird swooped across the path in front of me immediately I thought sparrow hawk. As I watched him flying low and speedily over the adjacent field every now and then twisting his body he was definitely a bird of prey. Too heavy in the body for a kestral and smaller than a buzzard I feel sure he was a sparrowhawk. Was wondering if anyone has spotted wax wings. They have been reported as spending time over here rather than in Sweden.

I love watching birds in our garden we have 2 hanging nut feeders and get lots of blue tits, Robins and a solitary Blackbird. We also get a lovely Woodpecker as well. there are also a few very fat pigeons who graze on our grass. Lots of great photos on Silversurfers of birds and many highly accomplished photographers on here.

We had a first about a month ago - a woodcock, resting in among dead leaves on the edge of the lawn. My wife noticed a slight movement. It took some seconds to realise that it was a bird, it was so well camouflaged! I don't think that in 70+ years in the countryside, I have seen one before.

Have been a keen birdwatcher for many years and are very lucky with the birds we have in our garden. Last year we had a pair of redstarts nesting in one of our nest boxes. Nuthatches and great spotted woodpeckers are also regular visitors.
