Breed Questions - was I scammed?

Hi! I have two questions. I just got a puppy who is said to be a brittany spaniel mixed with a black mouth cur. I can’t seem to find any info on google about this mix and was wondering if anybody could share at least some info whether it be through experience of owning this mix or professional knowledge.

My second question is regarding my puppies coat. He has a seal coat, so it is black with red/almost silver coming through. I asked for pictures of his parents and the breeders sent me pictures of two light dogs. The black mouth cur was the typical yellow with a black mouth and the brittany spaniel was white with a few red patches and red ears. Is it possible to get a dark dog from this mix?

The litter my boy is from are all dark seal coat with a little white on their feet. Since my boy looks so much like a lab I am wondering if I was scammed (which would not be an issue, he is a great dog, I am just curious) or if this is possible!

Hi Cara. I'm from Canada and have never heard of a black mouth Cur. It's not in my North American dog books. But I have had 2 Spaniels, one an Amercian Cocker, the other a Brittany. My Brittany was a pure bred, liver and white, with the liver looking more brownish to me. They also come in black and white, and tricolour. I also had a pure bred Australian Shepherd and now have a 50/50 of Black Tricolour Australian Shepherd and Yellow Lab. Interestingly you can't see any lab in her appreance at all but I feel part of her temperment reveals the nature of a lab. So all I can say is that, just as with people, you never know for sure what traits and characteristics are going to pop up from the past to give your pet perhaps a special look of its own. Just from talking to other dog owners in the general public if I ask what breed their dog is ( if it isn't obvious) the answer they give me sometimes sounds dubious. Sometimes its what they themselves have guessed or other times its what others have told them, including what the puppy's human parents may have told them. People can come out with some crazy ideas sometimes... on purpose or not. I suppose the best way, although it's not absolutely fool proof, and depends on the company used, is a doggie DNA test. It might offer some fun and interesting insights. P.S. you mentioned you couldnt find anything on google about this mix . I personally don't know if they are an "offical" mix or a popular unofficial mix, but many "mixes" are not planned or they can be something a human just wanted to put together just to see what the result would be like. What's your boy's name? Can you send a picture? I bet he's cute! Enjoy!

I must admit I had never heard of these breeds, but finding they do exist, in my limited experience of cross breeds the puppies tend to display the main characteristics of one parent or the other, and the dark coats do seem odd as neither parent is dark coated. However if you like his nature and think that he is a great dog, just love him for himself. How much research did you do on where he came from?
