I would not mind the waking up carry so much as the waking up with terrible thoughts, fear, apprehension, sweating with severe anxiety. This has only happened in the last year, I do have various health problems (don't we all) but fear of losing my sight is the biggest as I have glaucoma and my eyes just feel so awful. Also although we see people now and again, i have lost my faith in human nature due to meeting some very nasty people, particularly over the last couple of years, I need people but just can't trust anyone now, therefore I lie there and hold my husband and just can't imagine in a trillion years how I could live without him. I try to recite/sing things like...If your happy and you know it...
For me this is definitely connected to age, all the things I could imagine when younger can be pushed to one side but when you age, these fears are lurking like a horror film waiting.
Please tell me I am not alone here!!
By the way evech what is Milo?

Sleeping is a hit and a miss for me. I have read, watched TV, made tea and baked the odd cake or two in the middle of the night. When I worked I blamed just simply not switching off. I have been retired almost 4 years so I guess this just comes with the grey hairs. I could paint my kitchen tonight - maybe the thought will be enough to knock me out!

It appears to be a common symptom of ageing. Don't know why, but even being very active during the previous day doesn't help things. I am trying not to stress too much and just go do something in the early hours, watch TV (and don't feel guilty, or that you are the only one awake, you are not!). Good luck! And enjoy your tea!

No you are not alone. I've been known to do a jigsaw till 5am. When I was nursing I preferred night duty. Strangley I could then sleep in the day for at least 6hours, something I never do at night.Sounds dreadful but in a lot of ways I blame my mother. Education was a big thing with her. Once I passed the 11plus there was no holding her! When I came home from school the routine was always the same. Change out of uniform 1/2 hour reading, then tea and then 2hours of homework. I was always in bed between 7.30pm and 8pm.So I would go to sleep, wake about midnight and then try and go back to sleep.
I'm now 76yrs. and I still don't sleep well. So next time you put the kettle on mine's tea please!!!
