Can anyone help me with pictures I want to view on my laptop (windows 8) from an SD card?

Pictures from 2 different SD cards from cameras - when I try to look at them on my laptop they are just black .......... any ideas as to what is wrong/happening gratefully received .... when I look at them all in my pictures file I can see them but opening them individually I cannot help???

I hope by now, you have figured it out, it doesnt matter what windows you have, it DOESNT MATTER WHAT UPDATES YOU HAVE...(really frank..roflmao)
when you first plug your sd card into the laptop.. a pop up box will ask what you want to do with the
device you just plugged in... look down the list..and choose import photos.. or open pictures...
now..if that doesnt work...you have a file format issue, that means the file type the photos are saved as on your sd card, and you dont have an appropriate viewer that likes (it) them on your laptop... drop by your local camera store and show them your laptop and sd card.. they can easily download and install a viewer for you..probably at no charge... your problem isnt big or difficult just annoying...but easy to fix... unless you listen to frank..LOL

How have you uploaded the photos to your laptop, did you use a card reader, or transfer cable?

First thing is are all your downloadable updates up to date if not try that first then do a defrag might not help but your computer will be going great.
