Can you take Job Seekers Allowance if you have taken voluntary redundancy with a pension?

Hi, I'm 60 and have just taken voluntary redundancy after 35 years (there was no longer a position for me ) I have come away with a very good pension and £30k in my current account, a friend told me I might be entitled to job seekers allowance, I went on the Gov website to see if I could claim it but they ask a lot of questions about my finances savings pensions etc, I was just wondering if the forum thinks I should go ahead and tell them everything or play my cards closer to my chest? - exactly how much personal info about my finances should I give?

can anything I tell them now about my savings and pensions come back to haunt me in the future when I hit state pension age?

Honesty is always the best policy when dealing with any government departments as they have access to a lot of information about you if they want to check anything! I also was made redundant at 62 & not able to claim my State Pension for nearly another 3 years and, unlike you I did not have any private pension & very little savings due to a marriage breakdown 2 yrs previously - so Jobseekers was a lifeline for me! But it does come with the need to divulge a lot of private information (understandably in my opinion). I managed to "survive" for 2 yrs on these payments as was unable to find a suitable position but the requirement to attend the Job Centre every week became a miserable & depressing experience . So, if you do not NEED the payments to live as I did then I would suggest you give it a miss.
