And then there are the killers of Lee Rigby !!!

We know 100% who did that, yet they are still alive and in prison costing the tax payer almost three quarters of million pounds per year.

Many more similar cases like these, and it really does make my blood boil that 'maybe' at some time in the future these evil, evil people may be released on to our streets again.

I'd better just stop there. Otherwise......... !!!!

Like many.... I don’t believe in the death penalty in any form...
Mistakes are made, & innocent people are set free many years later.

How about old school... hard labour
( Breaking rocks & hours on the the ‘hamster wheel’ etc)

The Death penalty must be reinstated now to let the scum know if they take a life they forfeit theirs. Hanging works and its cheaper than electricity.

The problem with the death penalty is there is no reversing the decision if evidence comes to light at a later date proving innocence!

I am inclined to agree that some killers such as those in the Lee Rigby case deserve to die - but in general I am against Capital Punishment..

I abhor capital punishment. I do not believe that in this day and age we should contemplate killing another human being in cold blood as a solution to anything
Response from jeanmark made on 6th Jan 2017 12:31:15
So agree TerryO.

Not from me LittleMInx, I share your belief.
Response from jeanmark made on 5th Jan 2017 20:13:46
I think I'm middle of the road on this subject. I can't support corporal punishment because of the risk, how ever small, of executing an innocent person. However, I'm also not convinced rehabilitation is successful for everyone and doesn't take into consideration the victims of crime, many of whom never recover but are often forgotten. I also believe life should mean life however inhumane that may sound.

I'm also aware that lobotomies where performed on drug addicts and for other psychiatric conditions until the 1970's. The Soviet Union, Germany and Japan banned the practice before we did!
Response from jeanmark made on 6th Jan 2017 11:45:21
I agree LittleMinx, jails are packed to capacity but maybe a review of what penalties apply for what crime could help. You may well recall a number of years ago a man with special needs was jailed for life because he set fire to a church pew when the church was empty (he has since been released after many years in prison), in contrast men who had committed murder were given a few years only. There does not appear to be any consistency to sentencing and probably won't be while old, outdated hypocrites remain on the bench. I don't have an answer to the problem but I'm clear corporal punishment isn't the answer.

Yeah should be brought back
People like Peter sutcliffe Brady Nielsen
Who admitted guilt have been kept in virtual comfort
All these years costing costing tax payers a fortune
Time to bring it back but they won't there scared
Of the human rights people getting on there backs

My thoughts exactly Lionel and like you I firmly believe in life being life without privileges and luxuries.
Response from MorrisandDoris Original Poster made on 23rd Jun 2016 18:26:32
I certainly see your point on this subject but I do believe in the death sentence for the most serious violent crimes for the reason they just don't deserve to live ,you take a life you loose yours, simple and cost effective.
Response from MorrisandDoris Original Poster made on 23rd Jun 2016 18:52:30
I'm glad I didn't mention that I admire that guy Kim Jong-un of North Korea now what with your liberal views and all .

Yes, certainly for serial killers, terrorists, and mass murderers. I am in favour of the death sentence for murder but am also aware that there has been a number of wrongly imprisoned people over the years. Once a death sentence has been carried out it cannot be reversed. I would tend to stick with life imprisonment for single murders. I would prefer the lethal injection to be used as hanging, electric chair and gas chamber is a bit barbaric
Response from jeanmark made on 21st Jun 2016 14:49:17
But fordfocus, hasn't that been the problem in the past, there has been no doubt of guilt when executed, it was after the execution that new evidence arose that placed doubt on the sentence. How do you rectify that? Countries that continue with the death penalty haven't had a reduction in crime so what purpose does it serve?

I don't support the death penalty (even though I do have a relative that was murdered) but I do believe life imprisonment for murder should mean life and that prison should be as punishment not rehabilitation.
Response from MorrisandDoris Original Poster made on 21st Jun 2016 16:21:41
I Agee with you on that the death penalty doesn't seem reduce murder crimes but the point is justice for the victim or call it revenge if you like ,but some people just don't deserve to live .
Response from jeanmark made on 21st Jun 2016 18:25:50
It could also be argued that justice for victims is better when someone has to suffer by having their freedom taken away for ever, they won't suffer once they are dead.
Response from MorrisandDoris Original Poster made on 21st Jun 2016 21:37:44
The trouble is they won't suffer that much in UK prisons way too soft !
Response from jeanmark made on 22nd Jun 2016 12:44:43
It's against the law to deliberately starve some one but I do agree they need to be less comfortable to demonstrate the punishment. There are those that argue for the individuals human rights to be honoured but my counter-arguement would be they lost them when they broke the law and took someones life. As for cost, there are many people in prison for crimes that do not warrant the death penalty, they are not all murderers or even scum (depending on your definition of scum)!
Response from MorrisandDoris Original Poster made on 22nd Jun 2016 16:02:06
Nothing will change in this country while we have a spineless government and a European Human Rights Act.
And I would say the throwing of acid in peoples faces is a non murder crime, but in my opinion deserving of the death penalty !
Response from jeanmark made on 22nd Jun 2016 16:22:45
There are a number of crimes people may believe are deserving of the death penalty that doesn't necessarily make it right.
Response from MorrisandDoris Original Poster made on 22nd Jun 2016 19:30:08
Its doesn't make it wrong either !
Response from jeanmark made on 22nd Jun 2016 20:08:56
Touche.

Well fordfocus, murderer and other terms not appropriate for this site. But I have to be honest I had no word for the person who stabbed and killed my cousin with Downs Syndrome just to see if he bled like 'normal' people. Of course this person was from a 'broken' home so he had an excuse.

Yes I agree, I think we should have a two tier system Murder 1 for premeditated murders, child murders, Treason ,and killing while in the act of committing another crime .murder 2 should replace manslaughter .
Murder 1 should be death Murder 2 max life sentence
