Hi Peter, you are right about valuing true friendships but people seem so wrapped up in their own lives they have no time for others, I know even a simple text or email can brighten my day, personally I have lost faith in human nature and it is really not a nice feeling at all.

Hey georgie girl I'm sorry you feel like that you sound very disillusioned

If they don't have time for others, move on until you find friends that do. Don't waste your energy on selfish people

G'day Peter52,

I've not been 'chatting' with anyone yet; just joined. Whilst I agree with your expressed sentiment, do you think that it is possible to find "true friendship" via an online forum?

Just wondering what people think?

Cheers,
Ding

In this day and age of technology it is absolutely incredible how we can reach out and communicate with one another. Of course there are those out there that want to take and take from you, but there are some wonderful people in the "real" world and the virtual world that are worth getting to know. From the days when all we had was the home phone and the mail, now we have the internet, skype, text, email, snapchat, twitter, facebook.... the list goes on and on. Great friendships can be formed through these forms of communication. To me it is just incredible..

It's incredible and brings a lot of good with it, but the downside is, there are so many people controlled by their online life (you only have to look at people walking along the street, head down, glued to their smartphone as tho' their life depended on it). If only they would look up occasionally. 🙂

Yes, that is very true. Devices should not control one's life. I forgot my phone the other day at home and at first I was anxious, What if my kids have an emergency etc etc... but as the day went on it was quite nice. I didn't have to check my email, texts, or anything else. And everything turned out ok...

It's a double edged sword - there are a lot less phone boxes around now and it makes you more aware about how loss you'd be without a mobile phone. The only time I haven't had mine with me in years, a young lady fell off her bike and passed out in front of me. Fortunately a young lad had his but it does make you think. There's always 'what ifs', but even tho' I work in IT I'm not addicted or dependent on it to live.
