My cousin taught me to jive when I was about 12....and I loved it! In my teens - when we girls often danced with each other - there were a few people who were good partners...but always difficult to find a man who could really jive later. I loved all kind of dancing from then on...and could keep going all night to the 60's music! Those were the days...such fun!

Nevr was much of a dancer, Yodama, but I have followed your link and am surprised to find that I know the words to most of the songs - eeek, that really shows my age!!! 🙂

There is nothing as good as jiving with the right partner. I was taught by my two older sisters and by the time i was fourteen i could take them both at the local dance hall. I am now 72 and still jive at any opportunity . "Are you getting up"!

Yes you need a good partner, and no limp hands

Exciting eh ! I never learned until I was in my mid thirties, but loved it. How sad that dances are very much a thing of the past, such lovely times

I know. Yes I belonged to a swing jive class close to my home. Very similar but some did it at a slower tempo...myself I liked a faster pace it made me feel 16 again. Need a gent to dance with though

i used to love jiving and was very good too .then came the twist and you do it like this with Chubby checker lol . 2 years ago i was in Blackpool and there was a Northern Soul convention at the Tower we decided to Gate Crash and had a wonderful time dancing, i couldn't quite get the hang of the weird Northern soul jig but made up my own steps ..the friend i was with has since passed away but every time i hear about Blackpool it brings back memories of a Happy afternoon ..

Do you know I have never been able to dance, something to do with a lack of co-ordination I think. it must be 15 years since I last 'had a go' at a wedding, I was told rather bluntly that I resembled a frog in a blender on the dance floor!

I go line dancing a few times a week and used to sequence dance too but can't do that without a partner. Jived when I was young but a partner is required for that too otherwise you will definitely be sectioned lol.

Hi alemap,

I've done some dance classes in my time and really enjoyed the dancing, but lack of partner put me off. About 25 years ago I was doing Rock & Roll and became very good, but probably really rusty now.
More recently I gave Swing Jive ago and enjoyed that also. My problem is I want to swing around the dance floor like I did 25 years ago ! A Great way to keep fit though, and I so miss it .
