May I strongly recommend you check out Carers UK, both for the information they have on their site, and for the forum.

I used both extensively when I had care of my ageing MIL (who developed dementia).

You get not just information, but huge sympathy and support.

Sadly, with Alzheimers/dementia, you are setting out on a long and challenging journey. Learning from those who have, alas, 'got the T-shirt' may well be invaluable to you.

There is so much to learn, from how best to relate to someone with dementia, but also practical and financial matters as well (eg, Carers allowance, attendence allowance and so forth.)(and yes, things like power of attorney etc etc)

Carers UK (a charity) is for anyone who has any kind of care responsibility or role, whether its the parents of a child who needs care, or an elderly relative.

The forum is hugely supportive. Please check it out.

Just another thought - your Mum's GP needs to know that you are her Deputy/Attorney so that they can discuss her care and medication etc with you. The GP can also, if necessary, fill in forms to say that your Mum is unable to manage her own affairs and they can charge a fee for doing this.

Hi Scarynana (love your name 🙂 ) have you looked at any websites? The following one might be of use - https://www.gov.uk/become-deputy As in most things, you will get rogue companies who charge a fortune to give advice or fill the forms in for you but I have found the gov.uk sites to be the best for information and then you can make your own decision as to whom you approach for help. If your Mum can still make decisions then you could, possibly with a solicitor's help, fill in the Lasting Power of Attorney forms for Health & Welfare and Property & Financial affairs. Have just Googled this and the Alzheimers Society also offer help at https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/info/20032/legal_and_financial/130/lasting.../7
If you have siblings then it would be a good idea to get them involved as Deputys/Attorneys as well because then joint decisions can be made with no recriminations about how or why funds have been spent.
I hope/think that I am in good health but I have got Lasting Power of Attorney forms drawn up and registered for my daughters so that if I had an accident or a stroke and couldn't manage my affairs then they can take over even if it's only for a limited time until I recover.
Good luck!
