Disability Access - am I being unreasonable?

As the wife of a sight impaired person access to many places is difficult if not impossible at times. Either steps or just ignorance of the law we have been refused access to buildings, services or shops. What do you think of this issue?

I agree totally with jeanmark, this is a disgrace that the Disability Act was designed to counter against. I would suggest you take her wise advice and challenge this discrimination.

I'm surprised in this day and age and with the Disability Act as law and I'm sorry you have such negative experiences. I have a 19 year old special needs step-granddaughter, wheelchair bound and totally dependant. Other than having no place to change her nappy (other than on a disabled toilet floor) we rarely encounter any problems with regard to access to buildings, shops etc. She is even able to attend pop festivals as they provide disabled facilities. The only real problem we have faced is a few people refusing to be on a table next to us in a restaurant because she eats as a toddler and even being told by customers (never owners) that she shouldn't be allowed in public places! However, my step-daughter is very assertive and if anyone tried to discriminate she would certainly let them know they were breaking the law. Maybe you should challenge those people who refuse you services, if they raise the H&S issue they would have to prove what the issue is?

We do not find it too difficult with our two V I grandchildren. In fact they both cope well with being away at Uni.

I think your husband is being discriminated against. But fighting the issue is hard work. I hope things keep improving.
