DNA testing
Watch this postHi all, hope this post finds you all doing well. I am seriously entertaining the idea of having a DNA test done. Just thought it would be interesting to see if any of you kind folk have used any of the DNA services, or have entertained the idea. Thoughts?

It does not tell you your parents are not yours. Everyone inherit different bits of parents, grandparents DNA, unless all of the family do it and then it comes up as no close match between you there is nothing to fear.
Ask any questions you like.
I too have debated it, just to see who I am and where I come from. But would I want to act on the results and maybe upset myself and others..... bit of a quandary

If it could be guaranteed that all DNA profiles were stored securely and could only be accessed by accredited people (e.g. police forces and medical researchers) with an information trail which could not be erased from the computers being used, then I would suggest that it would be a good idea for everyone's DNA to be recorded at birth. DNA profiling has advanced greatly and can now predict a person's age plus or minus 3 years and their hair and eye colour although, of course, the latter can be changed with hair dye and coloured contact lenses.
I've often thought about looking into my ancestry because I have an unusual surname, and I think it would be very interesting to have this DNA testing done. My concern regarding DNA testing would be that it may be abused in some way; I don't think I would trust giving my DNA to some company, who knows what they may do with it.
I wonder why you are thinking of having a DNA test. I subscribe to a well-known genealogy website and have recently been inundated with emails advertising their DNA test so that I can trace my origins. My second cousin in Australia had it done and, I have to admit, that the results were predictable! I haven't had my DNA tested because I'm not sure how my results will be stored. I've no guilty secrets or concerns about my ancestry 🙂 but I do think it's a bit Big Brother ish for the results of possibly millions of people to be stored on a database which could be subject to hacking and abuse.
