Do other people feel the same way as I do. Strawberries used to be small and sweet and flavoursome.

Do other people feel the same way as I do. Strawberries used to be small and sweet and flavoursome. I go some the other day which were none of these things. I just weighed one and it was 50 grams. They were said (by the Coop) to be Kent strawberries. But really I can only think that they are grown for their size. They certainly don’t taste like some local ones I got from the local market. I have photographed a few to show the difference in size.

Hello SuffolkSilver I agree with you 100% which is why I grow my own organic veg and fruit, everything home grown is just so delicious it's really worth the time and effort, I have an allotment and we all grow different things then we share with each other and we end up with an abundance of the most amazing flavours, I really don't like supermarket veg but, if there is a fruit or veg that I don't have I do try to buy organic and believe it or not it still doesn't compare with the allotment, I wish everyone could be able to grow their own it's amazing, apart from that it's a magical the atmosphere and the people at the allotment you simply cant buy that.

I live near to where Kentish strawberries are grown and I do not think taste comes into it.
So many things are being grown in water with feed in, just awful.
Supermarkets put so much pressure on growers . The cucumbers that are grown only in water are disgusting the difference when you taste a home grown one is huge. People seem to have given up on taste we are being brain washed. I now try to buy from small local growers who still go for quality and taste.

strawberries and in fact most fruit and vegetables i buy are much sweeter and tastier from the local grocers i use than the Tesco in the town I live. I can also extend this to meat from the local butchers as well. yes I do pay a little more price wise but its well worth it. 😎

They are grown for size because they look better when displayed in your local supermarket. In order to get to the size they take on a lot more water and that dilutes the taste.
