Do you have difficulty getting a whole nights sleep?

If you have insomnia, how long have you had it and do you know what causes it? How do you deal with it? Do you have any natural remedies or suggestions that may help others?

I find that a cup of Camomile Tea is very helpful, if you don't like the taste pop in a Mint Tea bag as well. Another sleep aid is Oil of Lavender (make it a good one as the cheaper ones are not so good.) Just a dot smoothed across the forehead will soon send you off to dreamland!

Post menopausal and my sleep patterns, weight gain and fatigue all came to a head just before Christmas. I was asked to trial a new range of 100% supplements which help all three pro blend. One month later - weight /inches improved dramatically, sleeping and waking up refreshed - no groggines. Energy through the roof.
I'd love to help anyone else who is or gas been struggling.

I think I know the product you mention-it is amazing and really boosts the immune system and seems to (somehow) target the health areas it's needed in.....Maybe time for me to reintroduce it into my life again

I hear people and colleagues of different ages talk about their tiredness/lack of sleep every day. Is it modern life and stresses? I really don't know.

I have struggled with erratic sleep patterns since the '80s......in fact I watched so many OU programmes during the night, that I became a mature student and Graduated with an MA degree in 2005!!!! I drink decaff coffee now, and try to keep to a week night bedtime routine, but it's still very much a hit and miss as to whether I will nod off within an hour or two, or if I'll be wide awake from 3-4a.m. which makes it a very long day.

A lovely nurse yesterday enrolled me in a Sleep Management course, which she says it isn't liable to offer a magic solution, but hopefully something will click and work for me - I'll let you know!!!!

I used to take temazepam but stopped as it was rather addictive and I have been known to take two and still not sleep. I used to find the most boring television programme to watch when I was still awake at 4 am in the hope it would send me to sleep. I still don't really sleep readily but I take herbal remedies now which are probably placebos to me but I do eventually sleep. I found taking early retirement has helped as I think I had a lot of stress at work.

Never had a good nights sleep for 30 odd years. Take simvastsin now even worse. Went to doctors and she said do you want a heart attack or lack of sleep. Wasn't interested at all.

Yes I do! Yet again last night I was awake at 3am for about an hour .. I think it is hormonal .. I eventually got back to sleep but when it was time to wake up I was in a very deep sleep and didn't want to wake up. Not sure if there is a cure for this .. I did have a coffee before I went to bed so that probably didn't help! 🙁

Hi Lily - Yes, I've been using Melatonin for some years, but only when absolutely necessary as it is a hormone after all (natural or not). It does not work immediately so it's a bit of a problem if at 2.00 am you feel you are never going to get to sleep and then take it as you will then sleep on for a good 6 or so hours and if you have to get up at say 7.00 am it's a bit of a pain. However, if I know I have got to get up the next day and have a busy day ahead I take it at 11.00 pm. I really don't know, but I assume it is something to do with the EU regulations on natural/alternative medicines that you cannot buy it in this country. But that makes me a little wary of it. In the USA you can buy many drugs that are prescription only in this country and that makes one think. So, yes it does work but I would advise caution. You can still buy - I think - 5-HTP which when reaches the brain is converted into the neurotransmitter Serotonin which is a precursor of Melatonin. As we age our ability to produce Melatonin naturally decreases (doesn't everything!) so it is logical that it works. You can import it from The States, it's not illegal.

Has anyone tried Melatonin? I used to travel all over the world for work and had to use these as I would never have got any sleep! I have been using these on and off for quite a few years. They are made from tree bark. You can only buy them from websites if you are in the UK, if you are in the US you can buy them from Chemists.

I have now given up trying to sleep all night,I have however learnt to enjoy my nights. Rather than tossing and turning when I wake up somewhere between 1 and 3 am,I turn on the light, take 4 valerian tablets(herbal tranquillisers) and then watch a TV programme on the I player. For this I have a laptop beside my bed.I then find that after an hour I am able to drop off again. I no longer dread going to bed. :-*
