Have the Government got it wrong with face masks advice?

A new study from Hong Kong has said that face masks can slow the rate of infection among people. I would have thought this was absolutely obvious.

What on earth is the UK government doing to get them to the NHS? I despair of this country sometimes even though I love it so much.

We cannot organise a pissup in a brewery!

Look at South Korea they seem to have the whole epidemic sorted while our politicians blather on like headless chickens!

JUST GET THE FACEMASKS FOR NHS STAFF PRONTISIMO!!!!

Nobody I think is arguing that all key workers need the appropriate mask for the job they are doing. The question is whether it is beneficial or necessary for the general public. If scientists can not agree on this subject and after listening to both opinions for and against wearing them I am still undecided certainly if I was using public transport I would wear one other wise I continue to socially distance and frequent hand washing. At the moment the decision is ours.

just wear a mask as its more likely than not to help reduce the spread of the disease. its not hard to do and you may protect a vulnerable member of society.

to the idiots protesting for black lives or against wearing masks then stop as you are spreading it and it kills more bame people.

think and use common sense

France will be distributing masks to the public on May 4 ready for the gradual lifting of restrictions starting on the 11th.
These will be washable, reusable fabric masks manufactured under government supervision in their millions.
Just saying.

The only problem with these is...and we saw them for £9.99 is do they work?...I would rather the UK Gov supplied proper ones. they need to move a lot faster

Waiting for this government to respond quickly.... Good luck with that.

It seems to be trending now that we should all have some sort of face mask when outside now not in order to protect ourselves but to protect others from the infections we may be carrying. and so lessening the chances of spreading. viruses of any kind including colds and flu. This could be good sense.

I totally agree it is an outrage that the government have not supplied them to NHS staff. Rees Mogg about 6 weeks ago was blathering on about it will all be fine if we wash our hands singing happy birthday-what a buffoon he is!

Its pitiful Lionel that humans (and especially the British!) do not seem to plan for anything. We saw what was happening in China in China in January. Why did we think its not going to happen here? If we had thought about this we had 6 weeks...to plan...get masks, ventilators, train staff etc etc. And of course as always everyone has a PHD in hindsight! Especially the media and opposition "I told you so" yes of course you did!

I think she probably has a stock of hazmat suits for any time she has to go near ‘the Donald’....to protect her from the fake tan and hairspray!
Seriously though, I think the face mask question for non-key workers takes the focus away from social distancing....if we all do that and stay at home where possible then the face masks can be kept for the key workers who really need them. If we all start demanding face masks there won’t be enough for the key workers who really need them.
