Families of carers

Hi

My partner is having to care for a family member full time at the moment and our only contact is through email.

I feel totally alone and wonder if there is a forum for families of carers, that someone could recommend.

Care of our loved ones is a task undertaken by many , it is a huge commitment and very tiring.
If respite care was more readily available it would benefit everyone concerned.

Have you tried a google search? There must be quite a few forums, and with tips, advice or just chat.
I was thinking, actually, that there should be a national carer's day, not for paid workers but families and volunteerers, who dont get paid for giving up their lives for someone else. It should be remembered and acknowledged that it is a duty of love, but one that totally changes their whole life, and like yourself, affects others around them.
I took my dad in after my mum died, he lived 13 years, which got progressively harder, and with a young family of which one was severly asthmatic, it was hard with no other family or outside help from anyone.
Try not to get too down, lock down is ending soon, and things are going to change. your local council may have advice on forums for carers, or maybe on line libraries in your area.
Soon things like WI will be starting back up again, or church hall type keep fit, etc, may help you from feeling lonely. I am sure others' on here will have been through similar, and may have other ideas for you. Maybe you will be able to visit soon.

The commitment to take care of a family member it is not easy. having a family member care for you is equally hard. I am new on this site; is there a chat room for caregivers?

Please do get in touch with CarersUK - the website itself is very helpful in terms of what can be claimed by way of support, and the forum is wonderful for providing 'experience' from others, and loads of advice and simply companionship.

Carers UK is for anyone who has a care responsibilty, either for a child, partner or parent etc. It applies whether the caree is still living in their own home, or in yours, or in a Care Home.

I found it invaluable during the five very hard years when I was a carer.

Please please do check it out. It is immensely helpful!
