Fashion and Beauty Hacks

I wonder why there seems to be no beauty and fashion category . I don't know about you but I feel I need fashion and beauty hacks now more than ever.

I think women (and men) should never feel that they're too old to make an effort to be pretty, sexy, and fashionable. ๐Ÿ™‚

You are absolutely right. I just celebrated my 70th birthday. I put on full make up and I was surprised at how much better I looked.

Hi Cynthia,
We are about the same age! I've got a pale complexion so if I have a day when I think that I won't bother with make-up, especially in these lockdown days when I know that I won't be seeing anyone from one day to the next, I've only to pass a mirror a couple of times and I'm diving for my make-up box as I just feel, and look!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ more human when I've got my eyes and lippy on!

I had really let myself go because of the virus. I pray that you are keeping your spirits up "because the times, they are a changing." Stay beautiful and stay safe.

I don't think that you are alone in letting yourself go - I don't mind my own company so have plenty of things to do but there are only so many cupboards to clear, wardrobes to sort out and windows to clean before I start thinking "tomorrow will do" and, of, course, tomorrow never comes! So, it's back on the eternal diet and more exercise and I usually make a list of jobs to do for each day and then I can feel virtuous when I can cross the items off as they are done! Today's projects are ironing, shopping (for food) and gardening so I had better crack on. Have a lovely day, Cynthia! ๐Ÿ™‚

I always try to make an effort when going out. I rarely wear jeans to go out for a meal or drink. It really makes me sad when I see couples out having a meal etc. The lady has a nice skirt and top or dress on and nicely made up and her partner is there in jeans and a football shirt or other. I rarely go as far as a tie but shirt and waistcoat with a decent pair of trousers and a good pair of shoes and I feel good. It goes back to the old days when on Saturday nights you wouldn't be allowed in if you weren't dressed smartly and made an effort. Look at the old photos from the 50's and 60s and the men wore suits and looked smart.

Hi Jellina,
I sometimes feel that I'm stuck in a time warp with my make-up - still wear black eyeliner perhaps more discretely than in my teens but I feel better with my "face" on despite the advancing years! ๐Ÿ™‚ Don't think that I want fashion advice though - I wear what suits me and what I can afford.

Hi CaroleAH,

I used to feel naked without my liquid black eyeliner. But I started noticing a couple of years ago that it was aging me more. So i ditched it. I use eyeshadow now nstead.

Im getting rid of my clothes that i feel are not appropriate for my age. Struggling what to replace them with.

Hi Jellina,
Know what you mean about the eye-liner! I use a pencil so it's not as harsh and I smudge it a bit. There are some great clips on Youtube by Tricia Cusden of Look Fabulous Forever giving advice on make-up for "older" ages.
Response from Jellina Original Poster made on 11th Feb 2019 23:15:46
Yes CaroleAH I've seen her vids. I use pencil sometimes but it tends to pull my skin. I play with different colors of eyehadow to line my eyes. Nothing flashy tho

Hi Trish

I still haven't quite figured out what is good for me (i'm in a fashion limbo) but I do know what's not --- my super short bodycon dresses lol

TBH i think people should wear whatever they want to wear for as long as it looks good on them and they feel comfy.

But recently i ve been seeing matured women dressing like teens and they look desperate. One of them wearing an ensemble that I have in my closet. Lol That triggered my wardrobe purging project.

I agree about the pointy shoes, Eliose, and also your comments about well-tailored and more timeless clothes. When I was in my 20s I used to wear stiletto heels all the time, even when I was working a busy 9 hour shift as a receptionist on my feet for most of the time. Nowadays I tend to wear flat shoes during the day and low wedges for evenings out - so much comfier! ๐Ÿ™‚
Response from Jellina Original Poster made on 15th Feb 2019 07:04:00
Oh i think I like sporty chic Eloise! I probably will still try a couple of trendy stuff every now and then. I'll just throw them away If people go "Ewww!" Lol

I loooove stillettos but they dont love me back anymore. I mean, the agony of d feet!

Like you Carole, I was always in stilettos. I worked in advertising and I could run like Forrest Gump in high heels whenever I had death -defying deadlines lol. I wear flats most of the timeย now which dont really suit me cos I'm petite.ย

Nothing too tight too short or too pink. Hahaha Ok that will be my fashion mantra from now on Tr1sh. I've had some, er, a lot of stiletto incidents in the past too.

I think boots are cool altho theyre really not always appropriate in tropical places where it's either too hot or too "floody." Is that a word? Lol

It would be nice if we could post pics here of outfits we see online for inspiration. Then maybe we could "fashion police" each other ๐Ÿ™‚
