Finding new friends and expanding my social circle

Hi everyone I am 62 and was widowed in March 2014 but since then my social life has become virtually zero as most of our socialising was with my late husbands golf buddies and their wives/girlfriends. We hadn't been married long and I don't think most of his family approved of me as I have had no contact with most of them since the funeral or one of his sons for 2 years. Before that I had a thriving collection of acquaintances in the village where I used to live and as I do not drive find it difficult to maintain links with them. I am still working but would like advice or suggestions on how to kickstart my social life .

Hi LesleyM6,
I too am on my own and have been divorced for 12 years. I am nearly 66 and have recently joined the University Of The 3rd Age. It's not an academic organisation but rather a group of people in the 55+ Group who get together to hear talks, discuss various topics, organise outings, drink tea and swap recipes! There are many other social groups available to you. Check on your local council website. Or through a library maybe. If you want to chat on line, that's fine by me too.

Good luck,
Elizabeth

Hi LesleyM6.
Kick starting your social life........I live in Hampshire and am a member of a lively social group called MeetUp. I believe this is national, international even, but you should be able to google MeetUp and get details of something local to you.
We're all ages, we meet up for guided walks, pub meals, outings of various sorts, it's really very good.
Give it a go.

Hello LesleyM6, I'm not the best person to give advice on kickstarting a social life as I am in near enough the same boat as you but I just wanted to stop by and say welcome. I hope you manage to sort something out for yourself.
