Firework night

Its funny being in your late 50s as when I was little dad used to build a bonfire for myself and my brothers and we spent weeks helping him but stuffing it full of leaves and when November 5th came it was fantastic fun. We lit the bonfire had a few rockets and sparklers and mum used to serve us up with bangers and jacket potatoes. Fun times and we used to spend hours after the fireworks just messing about with the bonfire as young lads do!

Yes, Bonfire Night was one of the highlights of our year too. My Dad sold fireworks in his hardware shop so we got all the leftovers 🙂 It was a real party atmosphere with jacket potatoes and bangers, Catherine Wheels on the shed & Jumping Jacks chasing Mum round the garden. No thoughts of health & safety then? We had a huge Bonfire with a guy dressed in Dad's cast-offs. No worries about being pc , either.

Great times we were lucky my aunt had an orchard so we spent days picking up all the fallen wood and building a huge fire .My son would invite school friends and my uncle would appear from behind a tree dressed as a ghost to the childrens delight, although one year he had a very rude awakening I always kept buckets of water near by just incase, one of the lads grabbed one and threw it over my uncle in panic. Then we would have baked potatoes, sausages & beans. Finishing the evening with the ghost hunt wonderful.
